The Committee on Women in Statistics (CW-ISI) is a committee of the International Statistical Institute. The committee is currently chaired by Prof. Amanda L. Golbeck.  Prof. Golbeck is Professor Emerita in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at San Diego State University; and Professor of Biostatistics and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

The International Statistical Institute Committee on Women in Statistics (CW-ISI) has a vision to empower and support women in all kinds of statistical roles across the globe. The committee was formally established during the ISI Beijing Session in August 1995 but held its first meetings during the ISI Session in Istanbul in August 1997. The committee is comprised of members from every region around the world.

The objectives of the Committee are to:

  • Promote and strengthen the representation and participation of women statisticians in the ISI and its associations
  • Help build regional and global networks of women statisticians and facilitate professional development and career opportunities for them
  • Provide a platform for statisticians to exchange information, best practices, and research on women’s issues

Key activities and deliverables are:

  • Promote membership in the ISI and its associations, including nominations of women to elected membership
  • Organize technical or professional development sessions, panels, talks, or roundtables at the ISI World Statistics Congresses and other major statistics professional association meetings
  • Organize virtual professional development webinars and share information to the Country Representatives network of women
